All my screenshots are dark?

Every screen shot I take turns out super dark, like the brightness is turned all the way down or there's a dark grey filter over it. I can't figure out what's wrong, thought it was the ios14 update but my friend isn't having the same issue at all.

iPhone XS Max, iOS 14

I have the same thing. But I’ve been using the zoom function to dim my screen further.

I just turned off zoom and the screenshots come out as they should.

Maybe there is another option in the accessibility for this.

Yea this wasn’t a problem before the update now every time I screenshot I’ll have to turn off low light 😔 Dang it I have light sensitivity eye problems!! Anyone know how to make this not happen without having to switch the setting every time??

If you have the filter for low lighting on in zoom filters it’s for a reason turning on and off this filter is frustrating is there anyway screenshots can be normal even in low lighting? I know you can turn it off and there is way easier ways then going to settings just to turn it off. Click your screen three times with three fingers click filter and then none. Point is I have sensitive eyes bright lights cause extreme migraines turning this setting on and off is a problem. Is there anything else a screenshot setting?? I’ll probably look it up on YouTube but it probably won’t matter because of course there is a new update already maybe this problem got fixed!

I don’t this you understand. We are using the zoom function not for zoom, but purely for the low light setting.

IOS 13 would automatically and momentarily make screen full bright when taking a screenshot.

If Apple wasn’t so lazy there would just be a low light setting from the get got....

iOS 14 By far one of the worst yet in recent memory.

Sorry but it's not a solution, it's merely a "disable the feature you wanted to use and it will work again"

Where is the solution to allow using zoom with low light filter AND having screenshot taken with full light, the same as iOS 13 did.

AFAIK this is a regression from iOS 13 do ios 14

This is ridiculous. Requiring that we turn off an accessibility feature in order to use unrelated functionality on the phone is a terrible solution. Apple seems to break zoom on every update for me, so not surprising this is happening... but really disappointing.

This will fix the problem with regular screen shots but NOT when trying to take screenshots from a video recording. Changed all of the above and its still putting a gray filter over my video screen shots. Also all videos I try to post on Instagram, upload with this same gray filter and not the true version. Anyone have a solution?

Someone above mentioned that in iOS 14.2 this was fixed. The screenshots that got darker in the Low light filter setting in iOS 14.1 has now been fixed in 14.2. However, the same Low light filter, which was a default setting on my iPhone X, made the screen ALWAYS DARK, this setting followed over to my iPhone XS. I never understood why I never saw jack all in the sunlight until I found this forum and turned the filter off and discovered a “new and bright screen".

Turning the Low light filter back on again with my new iPhone 12 Pro (iOS 14.2) the screen still gets very dark, but maybe it’s supposed to, if so, why? And what’s it good for???

Thanks Wasp624. It’s incredible what these developers think of.

I find it equally incredible that Apple actually need to make a forum like this one for people like me who think there’s something wrong with the iPhone, only to find out that there’s something to turn Off or On someplace illogic deep inside the Settings... Had I known, I would have had a "night phone" for over 2 years...

I’m trying to troubleshoot and no matter what format the video is recorded in (HD/Non HD) my screenshots all have the same grey film over them. I attempt to screenshot a video in iOS 14.2 on my brand new iPhone 12. I’ve browsed online and I can’t find any forum for this besides this one. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Well that’s a real bummer!!! If you’ve insured your 12, I would have suggested to use a baseball bat, that might fix the problem... (just kidding).

Yeah, try the Apple Store, you might need to call them first for an appointment, though. Good luck!

@jomarswe

Settings > Camera > Record Video

Uncheck HDR Video

Record new video

Then your screenshots of video will be identical. However, without HDR, the light is considerably lower in the video (and thus the screenshot : (

Not a fix, just an observation by @GuardiAngelL.

Hopefully it'll be fixed soon, it seems that any screenshot would be identical to whatever is shot on the screen!

I find this really outrageous; here we are, on an Apple discussion site, customers having bought iPhones each worth way over a thousand $ and this specific problem has been discussed for months! For some the problem has been resolved, but others are still struggling with it.

AND THERE ARE NOBODY FROM APPLE TO GIVE ANY STRAIGHTFORWARD ANSWERS!

How many other topics are being discussed right now with the same outcome,

What are they doing at Apple? Probably

laughing their heads off saying: 'Let them figure it out between themselves, what do we care, it doesn’t cost us a cent anyway...’

Or you could pay even more big bucks for Apple Care and waste your time sitting in a telephone queue and still not get the right answer (now I’m being mean... or am I?).

The iPhones are great phones, but my oh my, you don’t want one of them to act up on you.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone!
