ios14 glitch

With ios14 installed on 11 pro max. If you are looking at or typing a text message, and someone calls you, a new smaller banner drops down from the top of the screen. When you answer the call, and put the phone to your face, the proximity sensor does not work and the phone stays lit. This causes your cheek to activate what ever is on the screen. If you make the call full screen the proximity sensor works normally.

The feature being new has nothing to do with it. If you answer the incoming call directly on the banner by pressing the green button, not swiping anywhere, the proximity sensor is not working.

The ear and cheek presses all links and whatnot on the screen while you talk.

If you then go back to the homescreen, minimizing the apps, and continue talking the proximity sensor is working again.

Definitely a bug in the new banner code.

iPhone XR and iOS 14.0.1.

As others have mentioned, this is a bug, not a feature. Or if it is a feature, it's a very poorly thought out one. Right now, I'm afraid to even use my phone normally because my cheek ends up touching the screen. I've accidentally initiated phone calls to random people twice while I was on the phone with someone else, simply because my cheek hit the "contacts" button and selected a contact. If I try to turn off the screen with the side button, it ends the call. Bottom line, the proximity sensor is no longer working and is failing to turn the screen off. The only way I can consistently make phone calls right now is using my AirPods.

Hello Tcadaniel,

It sounds like you are referring to the new feature in iOS that allows your calls and FaceTime's to notify you using a small banner rather then taking up the whole display.

"When you receive a call, it appears as a banner instead of taking over the entire screen, so you won’t lose track of what you’re doing. Swipe up on the banner to dismiss it or swipe down to access extended phone features and tap to answer."

This banner feature is to either allow you to continue working on what you're doing or to swipe down on the banner to access feature within your iPhone.

About this please refer to: New features available with iOS 14.
