Apple Watch Series 5 - Activity Black Screen

I updated my Apple Watch Series 5 to WatchOS 7 the day it was released. It worked fine for a couple days but all of a sudden this morning it has stopped tracking activity. I tried turning off Fitness in the Privacy on the phone, rebooted iPhone 11 Pro, rebooted Apple Watch but it is still blank on both watch and phone. Finally I unpaired my watch and restored it from backup on WatchOS 6. Seems to be working again. Figured it may just be a bug in WatchOS7.

Here’s the steps I did:

  1. unpair the watch through the Watch App
  2. Repair watch through Watch App. It will then ask you pairing a new watch and you can select to restore from backup. Choose a backup that has your previous WatchOS version such as 6. Hopefully you have a backup from before the upgrade.

I have this problem too: totally blank screen with the Activity app. I did everything you did, except downgrade—because I'm not sure I know how to do that. This is VERY FRUSTRATING APPLE.


To be clear, Apple, the app is BLANK. There is nothing on the screen.
