Apple Watch 3 not syncing Activity and Workout data to iPhone 11

I came to this forum to find help with my problem and wasn't finding what I needed. I had tried everything else: Location Services enabled on both devices, everything was setup to share on both devices, devices are paired, latest iOS on both--I tried every suggestion. As I explored a little deeper on my own, I was able to solve my own problem. I wanted to share what I did.

Problem: Workouts and Activity measured on my Apple Watch 3 were not syncing to iPhone (or from iPhone to Watch), or to any apps that I gave permission to access that data.

Solution: I opened Activity on my iPhone and clicked Sharing. In the current version of iOS (13.x), it is the in the bottom right of the screen and is a big red S-shaped icon. My Activity app was not logged into iCloud. There was a message that said I had to log into iCloud in order to share Activity data. Odd because the rest of my phone was logged into iCloud, but OK. There was a link right there in Activity to log it into iCloud and when I clicked that, it appeared to lock up. Several attempts gave me a message stating it could not log into iCloud, so I powered my phone off and back on. When I opened Activity again it was logged into iCloud and all the Activity and Workout data from my Watch had updated on my phone and on apps that have permission to access that data.

I want to be clear that simply restarting my phone didn't solve my syncing problem. It solved the problem with Activity app on my phone failing every attempt to log into iCloud. It was some sort of hiccup in the Activity app because syncing had been working in the past but had stopped. I didn't notice exactly when, but could have been the last time I updated Watch OS.

In summary, if you've checked all the other pairing, sharing, syncing, and location settings are on and still aren't getting activity data to sync, make sure your Activity app on your iPhone is logged into iCloud.
