I installed the latest software update today for XR and now when emailing pictures via the photos app, it embeds them into the message on Outlook. Before, they would be emailed as individual attachments which was MUCH easier to work with and save.
How can I change this?

YALL: I was looking through here a few months ago to try and figure this out and I'VE DONE IT! (Okay, it wasn't me, it was the person I was looking for the answer for but I digress)
Once you attach the photo and it is "embedded".... tap on the photo itself, in the email, and you should get the option to "send as attachment". Select and voila! Problem solved. RIDICULOUS that Apple support doesnt know this.
Yeah, I send like multiple photos to myself all the time. Very frustrating. A step backwards.
I have always used outlook and 14.1 is causing the same issue for me, very frustrating as I need to send many pictures for my work.
This worked for me, I am actually okay with this work around.
Why can't i send photos from my iphone as attachments. Why is uselessly embedding them a good idea - really??????

So the only solution you can find is to blame someone else for a change that APPLE made. Microsoft changed nothing Apple did.
Does not work. Clicking on the photo either does nothing, or it brings up a little black menu " cut, copy past, look up, markup, quote level, insert photo, add document, etc."
Sorry, you actually have to double tap it.
And this is in the gmail app. I tested it with mail app but that didn’t work.

Don't think anyone cares WHO made the change. We just want to find a fix!!
Continue to live with a crappy email client that completely fails to comply with standards used by the rest of the industry?
Oddly this worked for me but refuses to work for multiple other individuals at my firm. The "email / Text" never arrives (not in spam)
