ringer volume drops

I seem to be having a problem on my XR. The volume for the phone ringer changes on its own to almost off. I set it to about half on the scale and it drops off on its own haphazardly. The do not disturb mode is turned off and the change with the button is also turned off. This occurred with IOS13 and it is still occurring with IOS14.

Hello divingabe2,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with the volume of your iPhone when a phone call comes in. To help with this, please go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features and then test your issue again:

Thanks for the reply.

The attention aware features did not help whether both turned on or off the problem still exist.

The dropped volume occurs haphazardly. I have gotten in the habit of often checking the sounds and haptics to monitor the ring volume and reset it when it has dropped. This occurs without having an incoming call , needless to say I have missed calls due to lack of ringer, I sometimes only know of an incoming call due to my garmin watch paired to my XR. By the way this problem is also occurring on my wifes XR still running IOS 13.

Thanks for replying, divingabe2, and that additional info, it really helps! At this point, we would like you to reinstall iOS on your device; this will help us isolate the situation further. Reinstalling iOS should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Use the “Update” option and not “Restore” and these steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further.

Have a great day and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
