Missing apple icon on Finder menu and menu bar.

I am using a MacBook Air with an external Acer monitor. I use both screens rather than mirroring. The apple icon does not show up on the left side of the Acer monitor and there is no menu bar at all on the laptop monitor. I have tried various configurations in display monitor to no avail. The way it currently is the only way for me to shut down the computer is to push the physical button on the laptop. It is also very hard to restart if I don't want to shut down. Suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like the Acer monitor is overscanned. Does it have an auto/reset button?

You can also try making the Laptop the primary monitor.

In Display System Prefs, drag the title bar in the Acer display to the Mac display.

I just moved the title bar to my laptop. Now I can see the menu bar on my laptop including the apple icon so I can shut down/restart easier. There is no menu bar at all on the Acer. Ideas or isn't it possible to have a menu bar on both monitors at the same time?

Success! The menu bar is on both screens now and once I resized the Acer all is okay. Thanks much for your help.

I you set "Displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control System Prefs, it will appear on both, but you can span windows across both monitors.

Okay, I've never used Mission Control. I went to MC preferences set "displays to have separate spaces". Nothing changed on either monitor. Am I missing something?
