So in iOS 14 I’ve added a widget to my main screen. When I rotate the phone it does not go into landscape mode. It stays in portrait mode. Portrait/landscape is set to off and toggling between them does nothing.
what am I missing?

As of right now, as long as you have a widget on your home screen, it will not rotate. Take the widget off and you'll see it rotate. This will probably be addressed in following updates.
Same on 6s plus
Have you got and folders with apps in them ?
I have some apps in folders and some not. I haven’t changed anything from the way I had it in iOS 13.
Maybe they will sort out bug soon
Hopefully they will fix the auto rotate in an update otherwise I may go back to android phones next spring
My iPhone X will rotate to landscape but the widgets appear out of the left side of the screen
When using my iPhone 12 pro max in Landscape mode I get widgets appear on what ever app I have only. Which is very frustrating
I did read it. I have iOS 14 and had the same problem until I found that article from Apple. Next time, keep the snark to yourself.
I wasn’t being snarky. Didn’t mean to come off that way. I’ve been dealing with since the original 14 and even betas.
Still not working...
kind of silly to first end the support of the extended keyboard, which was reason nr.1 for my purchase (also on 8plus)
and now not bother about this bug...
I have just reset all settings and removed all widgets and my screen still won’t rotate.
The iPhone 7plus has always rotated...until ios14.
I still don't know what a widget it or if I have one on my phone, but my videos won't translate to landscape mode either. It's very frustrating as I need to read information on the screen and it is too small in compressed portrait mode. Why can't Apple leave well enough alone?
There are a couple of things to try. 1. Make certain your phone is not locked in a specific orientation by going to the control center. To do this, swipe up from the bottom of your screen. You will see an icon with a padlock and a circular arrow. Make certain that that is NOT highlighted (or locked) - It needs to be UNLOCKED. Click this a couple of times to turn it on and then off.
Then,
2. On your home screen, hold your phone in landscape mode before you try to open any app. if when you open the app, it still stays in portrait mode, shake your phone from side to side a few times. If there is a specific app that you are getting stuck with, report back here. There have been lots of reports about Facebook getting stuck and not opening in Landscape and staying stuck in portrait.

What screens don’t rotate? First, for rotation to work for an app the app must support rotation. Not all do. Next, Except for Pro Max models, the Home screen does not rotate. If you open Photos, does the screen rotate? If it does rotation is working, just some apps don’t support it.
