Can I download Apple Music selections to an MP3 player? I have a need to put the music on my dads "Alzheimers Radio" which is actually a specialized MP3 player to look like a radio with on/off switch only for simple use. I am not very computer savvy and need simplistic step by step help if this is possible.

No. You actually need to buy the tracks to play them anywhere outside the Apple Music system.

Thank you! I suspected as much but read somewhere that it was possible with conversion software which surprised me as I thought this could be a royalty issue ... anyway did not want to buy a bunch of music he may or may not like. Thanks for taking the time to help super appreciated!

Is it the specialized radio sold by the Alzheimer's Store? If so, it requires the songs to be in MP3 format. Subscription tracks will not work at all. iTunes purchased tracks will only work if you create an MP3 version by this procedure:
