Desktop pictures folder does not exist

I've been trying to change the dynamic background on my macbook to something custom for awhile now and had given up trying because whenever I went to look for the desktop pictures folder it simply doesn't exist. I can access all of the pictures that are in that folder when I go to change my desktop in the system preferences but according to my computer, the file doesn't exist. I know it must since I can see all the pictures, but it doesn't matter what I search or how I search for it it's just not there. I'm at a loss now, what else can I do?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
