Do you have iTunes Match? I had the same issue. If you go to the music app under the settings menu turn SYNC LIBRARY on. It will say this will delete and replace music on the phone. Agree. You won’t lose the music already on your phone. I didn’t. All my offline music and playlists came back. Hope it works for you.
You can also turn off Apple Music in this setting as well so you don’t have to see it every time you open your music app.
Anyone who doesn't have iTune Match or Apple Music subscribed, they are out of luck. The old song lists won't be able to recover. You'll have to do it all over again. I ended up subscribed to iTune Match and recreate those playlists. That way, all of your iOS device's music playlist will be in sync (sync library button in music app setting is now an option). It's pricey ($24.99 a year). And I believe this is how Apple force its users to sign up for one of their music services.
Is anyone from apple going to address this? I have asked apple support for a return call. Nothing. Nobody answers on this forum. What apple has done is just wrong and failure to even address it is even worse.
I have no button on my phone where I can turn on sync library. I went to my mac to turn it on and it tells me that icloud sync is not enabled. NO WAY to enable it. Thanks Apple for another great update.
I had the same issue. I PURCHASED iTunes Match and the playlist came back. The Sync library option was not on my phone until I PURCHASED iTunes Match. So I purchased ALL of the music on iTunes. I placed them in my own playlist and had to PURCHASE iTunes Match for $25 to get the my own playlist back. I don’t call that customer friendly. And on top of that I went through 2 levels of Apple service providers that had NO clue what to do. 🤷♂️
Exactly the same problem. All my own music. No subscription to Apple Music.
Music was synced to my iPhone 11 via itunes and my MacBook Pro. All the playlists synced over fine. Went to work the next day and they were gone. Re-synced again using Mac / itunes.......they reappeared then disappeared again the next day??!! Does it have anything to do with wifi network changes? Or logging into other itunes accounts and back which I've done? Who knows! Painfully boring whatever the reason!
I think I see why my playlists disappear. If I log out of my account on the app store to change accounts for instance, when I log back in, the playlists are gone😩
I have to then sync them back onto my phone using itunes on my MacBook..........boring!!!!!
It’s a huge bummer but the ONLY way I was able to get them back was to subscribe to Apple Music. I know, it’s not fair and very greedy of Apple bc these are my songs just arranged in my order but they did it and it was the only way to get them back. And they do come back immediately after you subscribe. If you find a way to save them and unsubscribe then play them without a subscription, please let us all know.
I am on IOS 13.7 and when I last synced all my iPhone 11pro to my mac mini
it wiped out 13 years of playlists on my iPhone but they are still on my mac.
So I got into the settings on my iPhone and turn off sync in the music settings
and went back to my mac and the options to sync playlists in iTunes reappeared!
Thanks. No, those things are t there. This issue specifically happened after updating to 14. 14 on iPhone is when Apple removed the playlists and are holding them ransom until you subscribe to one of their music offerings. Glad you haven’t upgraded....DONT!
I just went from an iphone XS to a 12 Pro and lost all of my playlists during the upgrade/transfer. I plugged the new phone into my Macbook using Catalina and it said I needed to download a file to sync my phone. It is a utility similar to itunes to sync the phone and control specific media to sync. It allowed me to check on "Sync entire music library" or "Sync selected artists, albums, genres & playlists". After checking these and doing another sync, my playlists re-appeared on my new phone. I did NOT have to subscribe to Apple Music OR iTunes Match.
Just got my 12 Pro, restore from back up was smooth, UNTIL i went to play some music!
So all i can say is W-T-F!
Turns out you HAVE to join Apple Music in order to get your Music back!
The option to sync and download your Music Library will then show!
Man, this is F@cked!
Well they removed them on 3.7 and mojave on my iPhone.
but I was able to go into the phone settings and shut off show apple music and sync
and then the sync option came back to iTunes.
i'll hold off updating to 14 for now!
Unfortunately, that did not work for me. :(
Wish Apple would respond so I can get my playlists back. WTH? I do NOT want to go in and create another playlist if it is going to go away after I go out of the app, as I have read in other posts.
Same thing here, checked iTunes and all my purchased music was there, so went into settings for music, switched off Apple Music.,(no sync switch still doesn’t appear) then rebooted. My music was back in full. Different looking pages, but lists remained.
I am in the same position as you and I’m really annoyed that my playlists have disappeared but I checked my iPad and they’re still there. Wouldn’t may be in the cloud like I’m not sure how to get them back onto my iPhone
