Merging two apple IDs using family share

Hi,

I am currently 2 apple IDs:

  • first one for iCloud (contacts, messages, iCloud docs, Photos, notes)
  • second one for App Store (app store, music, arcade etc)

On the first one I am paying for 200GB iCloud storage. Since Apple now announced Apple One subscription package, I want to get just one subscription when it is released. Is there a way to keep two apple IDs as they currently are and set up family share so that first account can access extra iCloud storage that will be part of Apple One subscription? If I set up family share am I able to continue using two separate accounts for different purposes; and continue to be signed in into two accounts on all my devices?

I don't have any purchases (apps etc) on the first account so technically I could transfer all the data (contacts, photos etc) from first account to the other, but just wondering if I can use family share instead and save the hassle of transferring the data?

Thanks

If you decide to switch to one ID, when changing to the new ID, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. You will have to then start the iCloud subscription on the apple ID you currently use as iTunes store account, and share that storage plan with your "family"

It should work, But I would seriously consider just moving your pictures and documents to the apple ID you currently use for purchases. that way you "futureproof" your system

Having just 1 apple ID is preferable.

Good luck!
