In Mail, the links between the List Preview entry and the actual message have broken

In Mail, the List Preview entry no longer links to the actual email message identified. Not with every email, but with some. Click the Preview list entry and a different email message opens. Cannot restore the original email, even from Archive. Problem may have arisen when the email account was ported to a new laptop. It does not always happen with recent emails, but with older ones.

Barney-15E: Thanks for the advice. I had never noticed the Rebuild option, so not realised this was possible. It seems to have solved the problem with the active emails, though the ones already binned (because of link problems) have not all been restred. In a number of cases the binned email now comes up as a pale blue blank screen - so we've not recoved these. But got the important emails back - a great relief.

Have you tried Mailbox > Rebuild. That should have Mail re-index the messages and restore the links in the database.
