Authorized computer identified as not authorized

I have iTunes music on my MacBook Air that I attempt to play. I get a window that tells me the computer isn't authorized and I need to authorize it. When I do that, I am told that the computer was already authorized and it will be re-authorized. What can I do to remedy this?

Thanks again for your assistance. I finally called Apple support and after poking around the rep had me check the info for the songs that wouldn’t play. Turns out those songs were purchased with an iTunes account from more than 20 years ago and that I had completely forgotten about. I was shocked when I saw the email address associated with those songs. It was from when I was with an organization back in the late 90s.

Anyway, I really do appreciate your responding to my question. It was a bit unsettling seeing so many of the same questions and no comments.

Repeated requests to authorize an already authorized computer for recent store downloads typically indicates you have corrupt or incomplete copies. Delete the tracks that won't play from your library without hiding from your purchase history. Redownload using the cloud links that should remain, or close iTunes and reopen if they don't show up straight away. While downloading click the activity widget and turn off the option that allows for simultaneous downloads.

If that hasn't helped see If iTunes prompts you to authorize your computer when you try to play iTunes Store purchases - Apple Support.

Thanks very much for your quick reply. When I checked out this subject on the support community, I saw scores of people with the same issue, dating back at least 12 years with no responses, so I was surprised to get your response. I will try your suggestion and see if that will work. The article you linked to seems to be specifically addressing iTunes for Windows.
