sync-worker.exe

There is another post asking about the file sync-worker.exe which appears in Activity Monitor and can be there several times. In my case, of late, it is making my computer unusable as it it hogging all the CPU power.

A responder to the original message said these are Windows executable files and asked the original poster if he was running a Windows emulator.

In looking at the screen capture, I see this issue. It isn't a Windows emulator but it is caused by the sync app. This is a new problem though, as the sync service, at least in my experience, has worked well for years.

To clarify, we are talking about sync as in https://www.sync.com

Their Mac app creates a sync folder in Finder. It would appear that either there have been changes to their app or to the MacOS that are creating issues.

As it stands now, my iMac is unusable. I can't even copy a file without the system hanging.

The sync app has provided me good service for many years so I was surprised to see this happen. I believe my system has other issues, as I recently was experiencing trouble with a process called com.apple.appkit.xpc.openAndSavePanelService doing the same thing.

I spent hours tinkering and trying advice from various people, but to no avail. The only thing that worked was creating a new user account... until the new problem with the sync app cropped up.

So, I opted to wipe the system and start fresh. It's a seven-year-old iMac so probably was due for some house cleaning. I have faith that the sync app will again be fine was reinstalled.

It did, however, seem odd that the Mac version uses a Windows executable. I asked their tech support about that and was told it is normal for this app.
