I need a pc for online uni work. I’m looking at a refurbished 2009 iMac just wondering if it is worth buying now in 2020? (this is all my budget allows or else I would get a newer one)
im only looking to do word processing, internet browsing and online lectures, teams meetings etc
any help would be much appreciated!

Absolutely not! It's a horrible purchase. If your budget is limited then buy a used one from a reputable source such Apple, they sell refurbished Mac that are identical to new, have the same warranty as new and are eligible for AppleCare and you can save hundreds of $$. In short, no downside.
If you still can't afford those, www.macsales.com sells used Macs and they come with a warranty. In addition Macsales goes through them and has awesome support.
If you read all the OPs post you’ll see that they have a mid 2011 model and not a late 2011 with the minimum specs. Just read.
