I had a green dot one the bottom left hand side on the phone that won’t go away

Status icons and symbols on your iPhone - Apple Support -- This article explains the status icons and symbols you may see. There's been a change with iOS 14:
"If you see orange or green indicators in the status bar
With iOS 14, you might see an orange or green indicator in the status bar on your iPhone. These indicators appear when the microphone and/or camera are being used by an app."
About privacy and Location Services in iOS and iPadOS - Apple Support -- To see which applications you've granted access to your camera or microphone, go to Settings > Privacy. Scroll down to either Microphone or Camera to see the list of the applications you've given permission to use these features.
