Phone freezes and call drop with iOS update

Since the update, when I go pick up a call, it drops. Also some apps are freezing . I performed a hard reset and it’s still happening. Anyone with similar issue.

The battery health is good - 100% of maximum capacity and "Peak Performance capability - your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance"

The phone is usable over a typical 8-10 hour work day without needing an intervening recharge, and will support several phone calls and at least an hour or two of 4G data. I think the the battery is OK and not the cause of the issue.

I have an iPhone X running iOS 14.1. Ever since the update, most incoming calls under the following scenario drop out when I attempt to answer, and do not record an incoming call ID. (I see the incoming call ID very briefly on the screen before the call drops out)

The phone has a leather wallet case that puts the device to sleep. Device is asleep, cover closed and on a wireless charger

  1. Phone rings with an incoming call
  2. Cover is opened
  3. Display comes on briefly, showing an incoming call ID
  4. About 0.5 sec after 3, the phone goes silent and the display blanks out (phone goes back to sleep)
  5. No caller ID appears in the calls list

Has anyone else seen similar behaviour recently?

(Eric-F: I have tried all of the steps in your post, but the issue persists)
