Family Sharing

My family members use the same Apple ID. We tried to set up Family Sharing and get the message "Unable to invite. Cannot send invite to your own account". This happens no matter which family member we try to add. Any solutions so we can set up Family Sharing?

Each person needs their own Apple ID .You need to create a new Apple ID for each family member except the person that set up the original ID.

If 13 years old or older.

Apple ID - create a new.

Apple ID – Create

If under 13 years old, you will need to set up Family Sharing to create an ID.

Family Sharing and Apple ID for your child.

Family Sharing.

Family Sharing - Set up.

When changing to the new ID on their devices/computers, there may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed. See Winston Churchill's response in the below discussion. Also set up Family Sharing between the IDs to keep access to your apps/purchases.

Set up - your child’s iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Family Sharing works with each member having their own Apple ID. Apple IDs are personal, and should not be shared.

If you are all using the same Apple ID, then Family Sharing is pointless. Your Apple ID already has access to all its content and purchases regardless of what device it is signed in to. It makes no sense to use Family sharing on a single account. You use family sharing to invite other accounts with other purchases and content.

If you want to use Family Sharing its because each person has a different Apple ID, and they don't have access to content purchases on other Apple IDs.
