Messages not staying pinned in iOS 14 on iPhone

I LOVE the Message Pin feature in iOS 14!!! However, I'm running into this issue...

I have 6 messages pinned, 2 group messages and 4 individuals. Every time I close my Messaging app and reopen it back up, one of the group messages is unpinned! It's always the same one. Sometimes when I go to add it back in, when I click "Done" it will disappear again. I reset my phone, which did not help.

I have this same issue, a combination of individual & group messages. For individual pins, I am able to pin both iMessage & non-iMessage users. However, for group messages, I am only able to pin those that are all iMessage users. If a group has some non-iMessage users (e.g., Android), I notice that I am not able to pin those group messages.

The Long press does show that the dropped group messages are still pinned when they are in the list view. The swipe to the right no longer will pin it back on top like it did the first time. However, if you click Edit then Pins, you can select it and it will go back on top. Not sure if it will stay or not, but just figured this trick out. I am assuming this is a bug that will eventually get updated by Apple. Hope this trick helps you at least get it back to the top when they drop off.

Cheers

I’ve been working with somebody with Apple. They told me to reset my phone and download everything from the iCloud, but I needed to do it using a computer. I don’t have a computer, I only have an iPad and my iPhone. So they made an appointment for me to go into an Apple store and have it done on Sunday. Annoyed that it takes resetting our phones and downloading from the iCloud to fix issues on their updates.

I wouldn’t waste the time with that “fix.” It sounds like they are grasping at straws!

1st: not everyone backs up to iCloud and you’ll Probably end up finding out that you have more than 5 gigs worth of back up, which means they’re going to try to encourage you to purchase more gigs, so they’re going to end up selling you more gigs to purchase and convince you that you need to back everything up in iCloud, which you don’t.

And what does resetting your phone have to do with pinning a message? That really males no sense that you have to “reset” your phone just to make their updates work right!

It’s a glitch, they know it, and there’s probably not much they can do about it until it’s fixed. The glitch only seems happens to group chats that contain android users, from the comments I have been seeing.

What I also noticed is that for me, if nobody has commented in the group chat in a 24 hour time frame it drops from pinned, but as soon as someone comments it reappears in the pins again. Which indicates that it’s an obvious glitch and is capable of being pinned with android users in the chat.

I’m pretty sure apple does not read any of these user support comments so we probably should start lodging complaints to them so that they can figure out that it is a real glitch that they need to fix.
