Purchased songs (NOT from iTunes store) won't all download into iTunes.

I purchased a set of 3 cd's electronically from a non-iTunes site and all songs downloaded. I have purchased music from this site many times as Flac files. I convert them to m4a files and play them in iTunes. I have never had any problems doing this (over many years). Six of the 27 tracks (ie songs) wont load into iTunes now. I also can't play them in iTunes if I just click on them and tell iTunes to open them. But I can play them in Quicktime, Wondershare Player etc.

I have scoured the support site but can't find an identical post. I am using iTunes 12.9.5.5 on an iMac. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can provide, I am really stumped.

OK. I assumed by m4a you meant AAC but it could equally apply to ALAC. In that case, an alternative to try would be WAV or AIFF.

Thank you, I had tried that but I deliberately buy Flac files so I have the higher resolution music files that I play on external speakers. With mp3's I lose a lot of information. However, it's a last resort.

Convert them to MP3 instead of m4a.

I discovered that by converting one track, ie song, at a time rather than an entire disk I could get them to work. However converting through AIFF would have worked too I found.
