How do I save my iphone from Apple Notes?

I recently upgraded my "iPhone Xs" to iOS 14 and it's now nearly unusable due to massive background battery depletion by the Notes application. Can anyone help me fix this?

Today, for example, my phone was plugged in for most of the day yet by the end of the day the battery is down to ~20%. According to Settings|Battery the culprit is the "Notes" application which reportedly consumed a whopping 86% of my battery over the last 24hrs, despite being active for only 3 minutes. This was apparently due to significant background activity. The application itself was closed all day and I didn't touch Notes on any other device for most of the day. Moreover, the sudden loss of battery has been happening every day since I updated to iOS, all due to Notes, despite no change to my usage patterns.

How can I save my (terrifyingly expensive!) phone from this run-amok application? (And how do I get all of my notes out of it, and into something more iPhone-friendly?)

In addition to making my "mobile" phone need to be plugged in 24x7, I also realize these extra deep-discharge cycles are destroying my long-term battery life too...

Thanks!

-Mike

Thanks for the reply! The specific issue on Notes does seem to have died down after about a week. (The phone definitely drains batteries faster than it did pre-upgrade but not nearly as fast as it had been.) Thanks!

Hi Mike,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like your Notes app is using higher than expected battery life since updating, correct? In the screenshot you've provided, it appears that the app is running some background activity which appears to be the culprit. Sometimes following an update, things may be indexing in the background which can cause an increase in battery usage for a little while, but it usually evens out after a day or so. Is your usage still high currently for the Notes app? If so, we recommend following the steps provided in the link below to maximize your performance, including turning off the Background App Activity.

Cheers!
