iOS 14 and CarPlay

Ever since I updated my iPhone 8 to iOS 14 music and podcasts played via CarPlay has suffered from static noise. Before the update I used CarPlay every day but I have stopped doing so on account of the terrible sound issue. Up until the update everything worked fine. The only thing that has changed is the software on the phone. I therefore assumed that it was an Apple-related issue. Sadly, Apple couldn't help me and referred me to the dealer as it, according to Apple, was a car issue. I then contacted the dealer who found themselves unable to help me as they deemed it an Apple-related issue (same logic as mine). I drive a 2019 Skoda Fabia. Anyone else who after updating to iOS 14 have experienced similar problems or know how to fix this extremely annoying problem?

If got the exact same problem. After some searching through different communities, I found a working solution for the Skoda Fabia 2019. I had to bring the car to a Skoda service partner to update the software of the head unit. The old version is 8742 and there is a new version 8755. According to my service partner this version is available since end of October 2020. It should fix various bugs related to android auto and apple car play. After the update everything works perfect. (the image shows the old version)

I finally chatted with Apple Support about this and so far their solution has worked. They had me delete my VPN and unpair all of my bluetooth devices on my phone. Once I did that CarPlay worked. So I went back and reconnected everything one by one (minus the "Bluetooth 3.0 Keyboard" because that was for my iPad and I don't even know where it is anymore), and so far CarPlay works now. So it's possible it was that third party keyboard that was messing things up, or maybe everything just needed to be reset. Fingers crossed this fix actually holds!

I also jumped on blaming IOS 14. After searching n searching I decided to check n see if the amp located under the passenger side front seat was getting power. The amp was getting intermittent power causing static and the audio to go in and out. There is a fuse about 18 inches from the car battery. Removed fuse and it had corrosion on it. Cleaned with a little steel wool and problem has been resolved. Research several hours for the a solution to the problem. Actual repair 5 minutes. I hope this will help some of you.

Yep Skoda actually confirmed that they’ve had lots of enquiries about car play since people went up to iOS 14.

For me this is totally unusable now, music breaks into static cracking noise bout every 2 minutes, pressing the speak button fixes it for about another 2 minutes.

Same with podcasts, back to the old fashioned radio for me till Apple admit the issue & fix it.

2 sets of problems encountered since I have updated my iphone11pro to ios 14:

  1. After the update to 14.0 the Carplay option was a mess: GPS on Apple Maps/Google Maps/Waze looks like it is delayed by something. The Music app display is blocked (it looks like a non animated image) on the song that plays when Carplay is starting. In my car (Range Rover 2020) there are 3 screens available, screens which on ios13 were displaying info from Carplay. After the update, only the main screen it was still displaying something... Somehow, after forgetting the car in both carplay setting and bluetooth, I got the Carplay running like before
  2. After the last update, I have got the same bad experience as before. I have done the same workarounds but without success.

PS: I tried to connect my iphone 6splus ios13 to the car: the result is amazing...everything works as expected.

Is there any other "secret" operation I should perform in order to use this very good(when it's working) option called Apple Carplay?

Hello,

I was constantly getting a message on CarPlay: IPhone not responding, please reconnect. I spent hours with Apple to no avail. HOWEVER, my car is a new 2020 Hyundai and Hyundai has fixed the iOS 14 problem. This problem was resolved in Feb 2021. Have to go to dealer to install new upgrade or on the company Website I was able to follow the instructions to do the upgrade myself following the instructions. It WORKS NOW.

Good luck!
