iOS 14 and CarPlay

Ever since I updated my iPhone 8 to iOS 14 music and podcasts played via CarPlay has suffered from static noise. Before the update I used CarPlay every day but I have stopped doing so on account of the terrible sound issue. Up until the update everything worked fine. The only thing that has changed is the software on the phone. I therefore assumed that it was an Apple-related issue. Sadly, Apple couldn't help me and referred me to the dealer as it, according to Apple, was a car issue. I then contacted the dealer who found themselves unable to help me as they deemed it an Apple-related issue (same logic as mine). I drive a 2019 Skoda Fabia. Anyone else who after updating to iOS 14 have experienced similar problems or know how to fix this extremely annoying problem?

If got the exact same problem. After some searching through different communities, I found a working solution for the Skoda Fabia 2019. I had to bring the car to a Skoda service partner to update the software of the head unit. The old version is 8742 and there is a new version 8755. According to my service partner this version is available since end of October 2020. It should fix various bugs related to android auto and apple car play. After the update everything works perfect. It's pretty disappointing that this still isn't resolved even after 14.3 just came out. The only thing I've noticed is Spotify hasn't updated their app in over 3 weeks and they used to update much more often than that, so that makes me think maybe they are working with Apple to try and resolve this for their app at least and will release an update once it's fixed. Spotify is what I use most with CarPlay but this shouldn't be something each app developer has to individually address, this is something Apple should be fixing since it's clearly an issue on their end

Have the exact same problem, as does my colleague.

We both got our company car renewed in September, and got the exact same model (Skoda Fabia 2020).

We both use an iPhone (X and Xs Max if I'm not mistaking) with Carplay. We need it not only for music, but especially for our GPS, since we don't have one integrated in the car. We're both on iOS 14.3.

Since the beginning, the sound is horrifying. We get almost instant crackling / static noise (always after a few minutes of driving) which makes listening to anything (be it Spotify, Apple Music, Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze or podcasts) merely impossible.

We got the same (Apple certified) cable from the car dealer, and we both already switched this to an official Apple cable.

Nothing seems to work, as the crackling always comes back. Unplugging and replugging the cable works for a short time, but this is not only really impractical, but mostly really dangerous when driving (this cannot be "the solution").

I saw the workarounds here, but I'm afraid they won't work. Assistive Touch was never on in the first place.

We contacted our Skoda dealer several times and they also said that nothing could be done at this moment.

It is driving us crazy. If anyone finds "the" solution, we would be eternally grateful.

Don't listen to apple's claim that car's firmware needs upgrade. My experience same as yours: iOS upgrade to 14.1 - made available to one of my iPhones yesterday - has caused problems with Maps and Podcasts. Disconnection, random audio cutouts, navigation ending prematurely, touchscreen response... all have been impacted. All of these function were bulletproof a few hours earlier running iOS 13.7, same vehicle firmware.

And it seems I cannot downgrade back to 13.7 since there are no signed IPSW downloads available.

Thanks apple.

Since updating my iPhone 8plus to IOS14.2, I cant get my CarPlay working properly. The screen comes up in the car with all the apps, but when I press down on the app to open it up nothing happens. I have spoken to Mercedes who say firmware is up to date. I’ve spoken to Apple Care for 3 days now , going through resets etc with no success. It seems Apple fix bugs etc with new software updates but stuffs up other things. So now I have an expensive ‘CarPlay’ system that doesn’t work. I don’t fancy getting fined for touching my phone when I may desperately need maps etc.

Come on Apple, fix your software updates properly so we don’t have these issues.

What I found as a work around for some apps is: lets say I want to use GPS - Google map or Spotify, I set the directions on my iPhone or the playlist I want to play then I use the voice control button on the steering wheel: "open Google map" or "open Spotify" and voila.

Still the control button next to the volume dial is not working, I can navigate but can't select anything.
