I'm getting message that I'm not signed in to ICloud. No where to type verification code.

How to sign in to ICloud on MacBook Air, os High Sierra, when you get notice that you're not signed in. Where to enter verification code?

Nothing has arrived at either my phone number or email address. Cant get my Confirmation Code for login to another Mac iCloud. I try to activate iCloud on my other iMac. Both iMacs are in the same location. Every time I try to "update Apple ID settings" on the "new" iMac and log in into the Apple ID it says I should confirm this with the trusted device. I do not get the confirmation Message anywhere.
