Apple only directly supports Safari as its their own browser. They would only support things they themselves develop.

However you can install a number of third party browsers if you want to. Browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Opera and even Microsoft Edge. Apple does not need to personally support them for you to install them.

However, Safai currently can open pretty much every website out there. If you are having issues with some websites, its likely an issue with the website's detection of Safari. Which is very seldom these days unless you've recently updated to Safari 14, which is being mis-detected by some websites.

Hi Phil0124

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my dilemma. After contacting Apple support I have downloaded chrome with their help and that worked perfectly. But just to note this was not the first time I was unable to use safari due to the fact that safari does not support any updates on the iMac desktop. I was very surprised to learn this. All of my tech items are Apple. I trust Apple to have the most up to date computers and iPhones This is not the first time I was unable to open a web site through safari. Thank you for solving my problem

Safari does indeed support updates, and regularly gets updates. Aple recently released Safari 14 update for Macs running Mojave and Catalina. So not entirely sure what you were told.

If you are running macOS 10.15 Catalina as your tag line suggests, then you can update to the current Safari 14 from software update.

If you have an older macOs version then yes, Safari may no longer be getting updates, but that's because, not because Safari simply does not get updates.
