How to turn off spellcheck in Notes? (iOS 14)

How do you turn off spellcheck in Notes? I unchecked “check spelling” under Settings > General > Keyboards and I’m still getting red squiggly lines.

I don’t want to add words to a dictionary. I simply want to NEVER see red squiggly lines on spelling errors in Notes (or any other app). I prefer to risk mispellings rather than be distracted by red lines while I’m writing.

From googling, it appears there was a setting in the Notes app a few years ago to toggle spellcheck. I can’t find anything now either within the Notes app or in Settings > Notes.
