Apple Watch App Not Working After iOS 14 Update

My Apple Watch app stopped working after updating my iPhone XR to iOS 14. I tried to delete it, but it won’t delete. When I try to open the app, all I get is the “Apple Watch is syncing” screen. (I didn’t start the sync process. ) Also, my Apple Watch 3 no longer syncs with the phone (the Fitness app doesn’t work either). I synced my phone to iCloud and reset my phone, but the problem persists. I hope to find a solution to this issue.

I was experiencing similar issues. Even after a factory reset of my Watch and a factory reset of my iPhone (with a subsequent restore from iCloud) I was running into the issue of the Watch app not launching or presenting me with a syncing screen. I eventually was able to work around it by removing the Watch app from my phone. As many might discover, starting in iOS14 you can not actually "delete" the Watch app, rather you can "Remove it from your home screen". I found that by going into Settings-->iPhone Storage-->Watch and selecting the option "Offload App" I was actually able to remove the app off my iPhone (I had a hard time finding the Watch app in iPhone Storage so I actually used the magnifying glass in the upper right of the screen to search for it). Once that was accomplished I was able to go into the App Store and re-download the Watch app, to my astonishment the Watch app launched and functioned without issue.

A CAUTIONARY NOTE: After re-downloading the app and "setting up my Watch" I noticed that while I was able to setup my Watch from my prior backup I had lost ALL of my activity and health data. While somewhat frustrating I felt it an acceptable trade-off since I was able to use my Watch and iPhone again.

Not sure if it will work for others, but I figured I would share my experience with others. Good luck.

There is a potential bug with watchOS 7.0.3 and the iOS 14.1 update (along with iOS 14.0.1).

Pairing can be eliminated between the Watch and iPhone. If you have GPS + Cellular, this bug will turn off Shared Lines, and the watch will function as if it's another cell phone.

A couple of things you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Reset Pairing
  2. Call AppleCare and report this issue. Apple can then check device information and repair the devices. Apple (not your cellular carrier) connects your Apple Watch to your iPhone. Your cellular provider, simply provides the telephone number used by your watch.

That's Great!

I found a new resolution too. This may have potentially worked because I contacted my Cellular Provider a few hours ago.

I Powered Off my iPhone and Apple Watch for several minutes; without erasing or backing up. Then I turned both of them On.

The Apple Watch took a while to get past the Apple logo and was slowly responding for several minutes. But then, it started working 100%!

Edit: My Cellular Provider sent notification of the issue directly to Apple. So, the Manufacturer & Service Provider communicated differently, unlike how Customer & Manufacturer do.

I have an iphone XR and an apple watch 6. My watch app on my phone kept glitching and i couldnt open it. What the apple tech had me do that fixed it was go on my phone to my settings and click your name at the top and sign out of everything you’re connected to. Then go in and reset my password for icloud. He believes the issue is my passwords were mismatched so it was having trouble connecting them. After logging out and resetting my password, i went into settings>general>iphone storage and find the watch app and click delete. Then go into the app store and re-download. Not sure if this will work for others, but after days of apple support and messing with it, this worked for me.

Hey guys so I finally got mine to work. I removed my watch from my iCloud and reset it. I backed my phone up to iCloud and then I factory reset it. When I set the phone back up however I just logged into my iCloud and didn’t restore my phone. I then was able to download the watch app and start completely fresh. Once the app downloaded and my watch connected again I then began downloading my photos and other apps etc. from iCloud. And now it works fine! Hope this helps
