Apple Watch App Not Working After iOS 14 Update

My Apple Watch app stopped working after updating my iPhone XR to iOS 14. I tried to delete it, but it won’t delete. When I try to open the app, all I get is the “Apple Watch is syncing” screen. (I didn’t start the sync process. ) Also, my Apple Watch 3 no longer syncs with the phone (the Fitness app doesn’t work either). I synced my phone to iCloud and reset my phone, but the problem persists. I hope to find a solution to this issue.

I was experiencing similar issues. Even after a factory reset of my Watch and a factory reset of my iPhone (with a subsequent restore from iCloud) I was running into the issue of the Watch app not launching or presenting me with a syncing screen. I eventually was able to work around it by removing the Watch app from my phone. As many might discover, starting in iOS14 you can not actually "delete" the Watch app, rather you can "Remove it from your home screen". I found that by going into Settings-->iPhone Storage-->Watch and selecting the option "Offload App" I was actually able to remove the app off my iPhone (I had a hard time finding the Watch app in iPhone Storage so I actually used the magnifying glass in the upper right of the screen to search for it). Once that was accomplished I was able to go into the App Store and re-download the Watch app, to my astonishment the Watch app launched and functioned without issue.

A CAUTIONARY NOTE: After re-downloading the app and "setting up my Watch" I noticed that while I was able to setup my Watch from my prior backup I had lost ALL of my activity and health data. While somewhat frustrating I felt it an acceptable trade-off since I was able to use my Watch and iPhone again.

Not sure if it will work for others, but I figured I would share my experience with others. Good luck.

I have had the watch less than a week. Used it for a day and a half before the app disappeared from my Home Screen then later the watch face changed on its own. Like everyone else, I reset both watch and phone, can’t delete the app because it is paired with the watch, can’t unpair the watch because the app can’t be opened. I don’t get the option to off load the app. Wasted time talking to Apple support, they don’t listen and try to guide me to do a reset even though I told them I had already done that. I finally spoke with someone who wasn’t basic support level, after 30 minutes he finally did a “little research “ to find out that it is a problem and “they are working on an app update “. This was Monday afternoon. FRUSTRATED APPLE!

I too am having an issue with the watch app. My series 5 watch needs an update but the app will not let me update. It just locks up when I hit the General tab. I tried updating my watch via the settings on my watch but it keeps directing me to the app on my phone which basically stopped working since the 14 update. I spent over an hour discussing this issue with Apple, with them also running diagnostics on my phone and watch with no resolution. Apple decides to send me to their Best Buy apple repair. I spent over an hour there with the guy finally telling me it is a software issue on my series 5. He unpaired the watch to the phone and now it won’t pair up. I went home and got back on the phone with Apple and they said that they will send me a box to return the watch and they will replace it since it is still under warranty. Ugh!!!! I just found this discussion and see that I am not alone on this issue. Now I’m thinking my watch was fine the whole time and that it is Apple’s 14 update doing all this!!! 😫

So this watch app freeze has been going on well over a month. I too now have a SE watch which other than tell the time, does little else. I noticed the watch face changing on its own. Went to access the app via my phone to see what the problem was and it wouldn’t open. Just flashes black and closes. I can’t delete it. It just disappears off my screen to the library. Went in via storage and there isn’t the option to offload or delete, just to delete back up. Which I did out of desperation. I have tried everything. Phone is fully up to date with IOS 14. Spent hours on the phone to apple (senior technician) who confirmed they are aware of this. They are not sure what’s causing it. It could be weeks or months before they find a resolution and would I like a refund as my watch was still in the ‘cooling off’ period. I am really disappointed. I was so excited to get my new watch. It’s kind of ruined the whole experience! It seems that even doing a full factory reset (which is the only thing I haven’t tried) hasn’t worked for everyone. APPLE SORT YOURSELVES OUT!!!

I was online with IT for about 2 hours, they told me to factory reset my watch then they told me to delete the Watch Application. So I reset the watch, and the Watch App will not delete because it says that there is a watch still paired with the phone. So now I have a $1000 watch that doesn't work and won't pair to my phone because the application on my phone is broken.

It’s unbelievable.... the same issue... it’s is already the 8th of October and no response from Apple( Surprise for my mom looking like a big “deal”... I’m really disappointed ☹️

I have tried all these “storage” “offload app” “copies in iTunes” “reset” - nothing...

(iPhone XR, watch series 6)

Hope that this issue will be resolved in the nearest future! And Apple will notice about this...

Stuck in the exact same endless loop. Got a series 6 as my first apple watch ever on Monday. Set up with iphone 11pro on OS14.0.1. Everything was fine for maybe about a day. Then the weren't synched and tried to open watch app on phone, it won't open. Don't have an option to offload it. Suspect that is due to it still having a paired watch. UGH!!!! So frustrated. And much less excited about my watch, but I think the issue is really on the phone side. And from the sounds of things, support won't really be able to help much.

Also, when I asked Apple Support and pushed for answers if there have been other complaints about this issue, she seemed to indicate there were but said she had to be careful what she said. I was like I don’t care as long as they know and are currently working on a fix🙄

I currently have a series 5 and now a 6 that don’t pair up bc initially they said my 5 had a software issue and to send it back to them to replace it. I went and bought the 6 while I am waiting for Apple to send me a box to return the watch for replacement bc I didn’t want to be without a watch. Now I have 2 watches that don’t pair with the phone! 😫😫😫
