You need to get your terminology straight. Apple Macs run macOS, and iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches run iOS, or watchOS.

If you respond the entire Mac product description line (including the contents in parenthesis) from menu : About This Mac, and the version of the operating system you are running, then it can be determined what version of OS X or macOS your Mac can be upgraded too.
