Certain keys are not working

The followings keys no longer work, 1, Q, A, Z AND Command. Nothing has been spilled or dropped. The Mac version being used is OS X El Capitan. How can I get my keys to work again.

There are a few things that could be causing this behavior:


  • Mouse Keys could be enabled: To disable Mouse Keys, open System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Mouse & Trackpad, then uncheck "Enable Mouse Keys"
  • Your keyboard could be damaged in some way - You may want to try using a different keyboard (If you have one) or using the on-screen keyboard and test the keys that were not working.
