All of the new Macs will run iMovie, and iMovie is preinstalled free. The least expensive one is the Mac Air. I would get at least 8GB of Ram.

Unfortunately, there have been lots of glitches associated with current iMovie 10.1.15 and Catalina 10.15.6. So you might want to wait a bit before buying a Mac that is running those versions. Instead, buy one that is running Mojave as the operating system and iMovie 10.1.14 or earlier. That combination works fine.

The best Macs for editing are the iMacs which feature much bigger screens than the Mac Air and MacBook Pros.

They also give more bangs for your buck in almost every way.

Their only disadvantage is their size . . . you can't carry them around like a laptop but if you don't need portability they are the best choice.
