Improve brightness / Disable auto dimming on apple watch

I just bought an apple watch 6. The screen is really not that bright at all, even though it's turned all the way up. When in a dark room it is even more difficult to read. If I shine my iPhone flashlight on it the screen brightens up. Is there a way to DISABLE the auto-dim feature of my watch? It's so unreadable that I will have to return it if I can't figure it out. :(

Is there any other way to increase the brightness beyond the max on the screen in settings?

Im having the same problem. It appears you cannot turn off auto brightness which I think is bad design. For me at night it’s too dark. I tried the flashlight test and it’s definitely at night in my room like 50% brightness which isn’t good at all.

they really need to fix it. Please.

Oh, I agree 100%! Imagine if laptop makers took away the screen brightness option and used ambient light sensors to adjust brightness for the user! On the one hand I can see Apple not budging on this as they don't want a negative battery experience from AW users, but on the other hand, even their own iPhone can disable the "automatic" mode and let the user control it.
