deleted messages folder in apple mail

I think I checked something in error. Why did this folder show up?

The Trash folder? If you go the Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors and select each account, what is Trash Mailbox set as? If you don't want to see the deleted email folder, try selecting None.

Nothing changed. I have a feeling it has to do with fiddling with iCloud.com. I noticed that:

1) I emptied trash on iCloud.com Mail. Then I went to Mail on the Mac and hit 'Synchronize iCloud,' and the folder appeared again.

2) what is difference in MBP Mail: Trash/on my mac, and Trash/iCloud? Which do I want it to go to? They all go into Trash/iCloud now, yet you don't see them if you go to the web version of Mail. Am I making sense?

*I guess I don't know what 'emails added to On My Mac' means. I just get emails to my @icloud address, read 'em, and then hit the 'delete selected messages' folder----and that's where they go.

*So you're saying that when you empty trash on the web, that's when that 'deleted messages' folder shows up in Mail- it's supposed to to that?

*Also; I signed up to get daily Apple News emails- yet I've never received one. I don't get product announcements either.
