A number of Recovered Messages folders have appeared in the 'On My Mac' section of my iMac Mail app
All the folders are empty, and I can't delete any of them. They have been there some time in during that time I've updated the Mac OS. I've also restarted the Mail app frequently but these nuisance empty folders remain there.

Start up a Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.
Press and hold the power button on your Mac until the startup options window appears showing available startup disks and Options.
Select a startup disk.
Press and hold the Shift key, click Continue in Safe Mode, then release the Shift key.
To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally, without pressing and holding any keys during startup.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Did as suggested - no difference. Also have unwanted Import folders with one ancient email in them: I've tried deleting the emails, moving them to the Inbox but the email persists, as do the increasing number of Import folders.
Are they in the Trash maybe?

I did delete the files and folders using FaF app and the Recovered Messages folders seem to have gone - for the moment.
I also deleted the various Import folders, including the annoying single 2018 email which was included in them. That worked with the folders disappearing.
However, if I close and re-open Mail, an Import folder reappears with the ****** email enclosed.
At the end of the day, this is just a minor nuisance to me and I can live with it, but it's just annoying when systems just don't work 100%.
Yes, it's weird. But I'm not going to chase it any further.

OK, I've followed the steps above and found the folders. Now what?
If you want to delete them you can do it in FaF, right click on one or select many, chose Send to Trash.
Quite curious, don't have a handle on why/how it could get stuck importing!?
