Can I have AppleID in different countries?

Can I have AppleID in different countries? I have a U.S. AppleID account with family sharing. I am currently staying in Mexico (and will be here indefinitely due to the Coronavirus pandemic). Apparently I cannot add family members with Mexico based AppleID. What are my options here?

• I have a second iPad that I can use for a second AppleID to share with Mexican family members.

• I would prefer to use my primary iPad.

• I don’t understand all the provisions and limitations for a single user to have multiple AppleIDs.

• If I am able to have two AppleIDs, can I use the same Apple Card (credit card) as a payment method for both?

I guess that’s all my questions for the time being. I wish Apple would make this easier (or possible), although I realize some iTunes content has country limitations.

An Apple ID can only be a part of one family at a time. To belong to two families, you have to use a different Apple ID. All family members must use the same regional store. For example, you can't have a US based family and add a family member using the Mexican store.

A single user can have multiple Apple IDs, although having multiple IDs can make things confusing at times.

An Apple Card is assigned to the ID used when requesting the card. The card can't be shared with another Apple ID.

You are welcome. What you are considering as a work around should work if you have a Mexican payment method on file and a Mexican billing address you can use. You can't set up Family Sharing without a payment method on file. Remember that purchases made on one ID can't be transferred to another ID. If you eventually get both IDs using the same store, you can then invite the other ID to join Family Sharing so you can share purchases.

Thank you. I think you partially answered and/or confirmed what AppleCare chat just told me.

Here is the work-around I am considering.

1) Reconfigure my second iPad and create a Mexico account.

2) Load the account with iTunes gift cards.

3) Invite members of the Mexican side of the family to join family sharing on the new account.

An additional benefit I had not considered is that I can add up to 6 new people. Whereas if I had made them get new U.S. based accounts, I’d only be able to add two (due to family members already sharing).

The only thing holding me back now is the wait for Apple One and its availability in Mexico.

Thanks again for your help!
