iPad won't turn on

Bought a new iPad a couple of years ago. Finally opened the package, plugged in the iPad so it would charge. Turned it on, and got partway through the set up process. Set the iPad down, and now, a day later, the iPad won't turn on.

How do I fix this?

Thanks.

If the battery is dead, it may not accept or retain charge. With a failed battery, the iPad will not power-on - whether or not the Power Adapter is connected.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.

As described, the iPad battery may have failed due to extended storage without being charged. Li-ion batteries will eventually fail is they are not used - or if the battery is allowed to fully discharge. Even when switched-off, natural self-discharge will eventually deplete the battery.

If the battery has failed, the iPad will be unusable.
