iPad 2 can't be activated

Suddenly for no apparent reason, my iPad 2 won't start and displays a message that it can't be activated.

In the post-iTunes world, there is a really simple fix for this problem. Simply plug your iPad into your Mac running Catalina OS, open a Finder window, in the "Locations" section of the left pane, select your iPad. You should see an "Activating" message. Wait a few moments and the iPad will be activated and ready to go. I had previously removed the iPad from my iCloud account, but I'm not sure if that is necessary. Good luck!
