I received an Apple Watch from a friend who doesn’t know the Apple ID or password associated with the I watch so how do I go about pairing it as the activation lock won’t let me do anything

Did this friend actually own the Apple Watch? If so, the hint provided regarding the Apple ID should be helpful:

If not, perhaps the Apple Watch has a less-than-wholesome history. Without the Apple ID and password, it will remain useless forever.
