Question: iOS 14, cant find nfc reader in control centre

my siblings iPhone 7 which is the same iOS as me has the nfc reader available to add in the control centre, however I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max and I can’t seem to add it, is this a bug with the software update? Thanks for any responses in advance

It is working again. There isn't a NFC icon in control center but it reads by sensing a tag. I am on the latest version of iOS - 14.3

Hi evelnick,

Thanks for posting. We see you're unable to locate the NFC Tag Reader option in the Control Center on your iPhone. We're happy to share some information about this.

Because your iPhone 11 Pro Max supports NFC tag reading automatically, you wouldn't see the toggle option like you do on some other devices, like the iPhone 7 you mentioned. This link has a little more info: iOS 14 - Features - Apple. The text below is in reference to NFC in iOS 14:

"Supported automatically on iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Supported after turning on NFC scan mode from Control Center on iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X."

We hope this answers your question!

Kindest regards.

There is no NFC in control center as I understand (for iPhone XS and up in iOS 14) but my iPhone does not read the tags automatically as suggested here. It just does not do anything when I tap the tag. When I use some third party app it works. So this is disappointing. They took it away in control center saying it is always on, but it does not work (it does not seem to be enabled for me - XS MAX iOS 14)

i have the same problem with iPhone 12 mini. In iOS14, when i use apple's shortcuts app OR when i use a third-party app, they scan the tags fine... but when a phone active and even unlocked, the tag doesn't get read automatically... Had multiple calls with apple to no avail. :(

On my Iphone X it is not automati at all. Simply it does not work.

I have another phone: Iphone 7 and with that I succeed through an app.

I suspect that the problem is not the operative system but it is a hardware defect!!

I know plenty of other people that have same Iphone X and they cannot succeed to read NFC Tag nor directly from the native tool nor via whatever app.

I think that apple should give us an official answer about this issue.

I took contact with apple support but I did not get a clear answer.

I’m just wondering, if it is a spread problem, why Apple is not clarifying officially what is the issue and when and how they are going to fix it?

The situation, as it is, is just frustrating!
