External monitor for 13" MacBook pro early 2011

At present I have an HP monitor with a 21" screen set at 1600 x 900 and with a 60 hz refresh rate. I take and edit a lot of photographs and sometimes the pictures are fuzzy. Sometimes the wording on the screen is also quite fuzzy - so I would like to purchase a new monitor rather than a new iMac - although I would like one, not sure I will live long enough to get full use out of it! ;-)


I am not into technical stuff - I am a 75 year old lady - but would like any advice for a new external monitor - not more than 24" screen.


The details about my Macbook are as follows:

MacOS High Sierra

Macbook Pro 13 inch Early 2011

Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory 16GB 1333 mHz DDR3

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB


Storage 500 GB SSD


Memory 2 Memory slots 8 GB each


I hope that someone can help me, without getting too technical.

Your Mac has a Thunderbolt 1 port, which is the same as mini-DisplayPort in terms of connecting a monitor. So, you can select any display you want up to a resolution of 2560 by 1600 (sometimes called 2.5K, but 'full HD' or 1080p displays will work fine), within your budget, and connect it with a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI or mini-DisplayPort to DsiplayPort cable, depending on the input(s) on the display you choose.
