My iPhone 8 does not have an audible ring on incoming calls

That's an easy one to forget!

I used to work for a major U.S. cellular carrier. Part of my job was running workshops to teach people how to use their new smartphones. I once had a workshop were a very grumpy man snapped to the woman next to him, "Well, it's easy for you younger people but I'm 85!" She looked at him with great dignity and said "I'm 92". I'll tell you want I told them: Kids figure all this out because they are not afraid to fail. They don't expect to be competent. As adults, we're used to feeling like we know how to do things. Making mistakes is uncomfortable. I've never seen a phone explode because you pushed the wrong button. So, don't be afraid to push buttons, try things out.

Also, try to get enough exercise! ;-)

Did you check the mute switch? It's the little slider on the side of the phone above the volume buttons.
