How can I remove a Directory from a time machine backup using tmutil?

I want to delete specific directories from my Time Machine backups from the command line, I used the Time Machine app itself to remove backups for Xcode. I took 20 hours to complete!

I have a 2016 MacBook Pro I7 with 16GB of ram and a 960 GB SSD! That was just too long!

How can I do this with tmutil so I can still use my computer during the operation?

Thanks.

If you try to manage the Time Machine Backups outside of the Time Machine interface, the odds are you will end up with a corrupted backup file that cannot be restored.

My suggestion is to start a new backup on a new drive and file the current drive away for future use, if necessary.

Have a nice day.
