MacBook Air

Having issues with the MacBook Air.. last weekend the Mac shut down by itself and when trying to turn back on it went to the black Apple logo screen and just stopped. I was able to boot into the OS utility screen and then safe mode to bypass it last weekend. This weekend the Mac isn’t reading my commands. It won’t boot into safemode and when you hold command R while turning on it just goes to a blank black screen rather than the Apple logo black screen. Any ideas what I can do to fix my girlfriends MacBook?

Try an SMC reset and PRAM reset (hold the PRAM reset for at least three chimes so it activates several times assuming it is a 2017 or earlier model). If it is a 2018+ model with the T2 security chip, then you can try to "Revive" the T2 firmware using another Mac.

Try running the Apple Diagnostics.

See if you can boot the laptop into Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R) using an external USB keyboard. If this doesn't work, then you most likely have a hardware issue that will need to be repaired.
