Boot problem MacBook Pro A1990

Good morning everyone,


I am writing to you because I have a problem with a MacBook Pro Model A1990.


When turn on the pc appear this screen



If I tried to enter in recovery mode:



this is the result:


I tried olso with a bootable USB with macOS Ventura but is not possibile select...



I have tried to reset nvrm, following general procedures on youtube but nothing.


In my opinion the SSD is damage, should this possible?

If you are getting a different large negative error code besides the -1008f error you received before, then there is some sort of problem with your network or Internet. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't provide information for the other error codes so we have no idea exactly why Internet Recovery Mode is failing for you. Connecting the laptop directly to the router using an Ethernet Cable and appropriate adapter will provide a faster more reliable connection which bypasses hard to troubleshoot WiFi issues. You can try to power cycle the router though, making sure to wait at least five minutes for the router to finish booting. It could be a setting with your router, or it may be an issue with your ISP or possibly your local Internet (the latter two you are unlikely to resolve). You can also try booting into Internet Recovery Mode at a different location which may have a better Internet connection.


Otherwise you have two other options:

  • If you have access to another Qualifying Mac from 2019 to 2022, then you can create a bootable macOS USB installer. Booting to USB is not an option unless you previously enabled it by first modifying the Startup Security Utility settings which requires first booting into recovery mode.
  • If you have access to another Mac running macOS 10.15+, you can "Restore" the firmware which will erase the internal SSD and push a new copy of macOS onto the internal SSD. This option destroys all data on the internal SSD.


If you were not able to boot to the Ventura USB installer mentioned in the original post, then try it again assuming you previously enabled booting from USB by previously using the Startup Security Utility to modify the laptop's security settings.


If none of this works, or none of this is an option for you, then you will need to take the laptop to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance.

You can only do a stand-alone Install (when NOT using Recovery and download) by booting from a different boot drive (the USB stick installer).


On Macs after 2017 models, the T2 chip precludes booting form another boot drive, unless/until you change its settings:

I had tried again:


I started the MacBook Pro using Option-Command-R, chose the correct Wi-Fi, waited "Starting Internet Recovery. This may take a while." but at the end of the procedure I had the same error: 2005F



I also tried to disconnect and reconnect the battery, did a hardware test and the result was ok.


any suggestions? I don't have access to OS and then I can't booting form another boot drive.

In Internet Recovery, these low negative thousands error messages indicate that your provided Wi-Fi Network is inadequate in some fashion, and cannot be used (for this purpose) in its current state.


Common problems include:

Hidden Network-name

required use of a proxy server to get Internet access

required use of a login page to get Internet access

Use of a login server or certificate to get Internet access

Use of PPPoE in the Mac to get Internet access (typically only applies to DSL)

Use of Fixed IP address rather than good old DHCP

Variance of the time by more than five minutes

Failure of Router to provide workable DNS server addresses, or providing 0.0.0.0 [may produce -2002f]


If you have an Ethernet port, you may in some cases be able to move your Mac close to the Router and connect to the Router using Ethernet.


The higher the number, the more obscure the problem.
