Resting energy too low

Hi. After the new iOS update there has been a dramatic drop in my resting energy - by more than half. There has been no change in my lifestyle.

Any suggestions?

We are all having similar problems, loss of accurate data like resting energy levels, stand bars don’t show up, trends have vanished. This is since ios14. Apple need to sort this problem out rather than suggest it’s the fault of the users. The original watch interface and links to the health app was fine. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Apples latest update has added nothing to my experience with the watch.

Thank you Tammy.

the software on both my phone and watch is updated. I even reset my watch. And gave it a couple of days -the resting energy readings have not started reflecting accurately - still weirdly low.

also, my workouts are being picked up on my watch but not all of them on the exercise app on my phone.

any further advice?

I'm having the same problem. My resting energy has not only dropped to less than a third of what it was before, it is also now well below any credible estimate for an adult human: it dropped from almost 7,000 kJ (around 1700 calories) a couple of weeks ago to only 2,000 kJ (478 calories)/day. I'm a fit, healthy, active but overweight adult of normal height, so this is just not possible.

In addition, my "active energy" in the health app is now much lower than my "move" energy in the activity app, every day: shouldn't they match?

Finally, I am now seeing long gaps in my heart rate record during workouts, which I did not see before. I have not changed how I wear the watch nor the type of workout that I am doing.

These changes happened at about the time of the last major iOS and watchOS updates.

I have an Apple Watch 4 with iPhone X. I have all the latest software updates and have automatic downloads switched on. I have tried resetting both devices, with no effect. I take long walks with the watch's heart rate monitor active every day, so it should not be a calibration issue. I wear the watch all day every day.

I'll add that I have every reason to believe that the old estimate of my resting and active energy were accurate: I have been tracking my energy intake (counting calories very carefully) and energy burned (resting + active energy) for the last four months. Until the change, my rate of weight loss was almost exactly what would have been predicted from the difference between the two.

I have followed the earlier and the new instructions. There is no change - in fact I realise while the watch confirms stand hours, the phone doesn’t show most of them. And some workouts are also not being picked up, including outdoor walk maps (I have all the correct settings configured as earlier).

this is getting really frustrating.

It gets worse. I spent two and half hours on the phone with Apple Support. No resolution. They will get back in a few days, hopefully with some solution.

not only am I frustrated this is affecting my health - the watch was my tool and partner in my weight loss journey during COVID but this mess has made me lose my momentum.
