macOS dock does not hide when switching apps to fullscreen

Since updating to the latest version of Safari and macOS Catalina, the dock no longer hides when I switch any of my apps to fullscreen mode. I can only assume it is a bug because it only started happening after installing the latest Safari update and the macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a fix for the issue?

On a side-note, I have found macOS to be very unreliable and is still, to this day, littered with bugs. Let's hope macOS Big Sur will fix all of these issues and will be a more robust and reliable system!

1. Go to system preferences.
2. Go to Dock
3. Select "Automatically hide and show the dock"

FWIW, "Automatically hide and show the dock" has nothing to do with hiding the Dock when switching to Full Screen.
