2017 A1708 EMC 3164 MacBook Pro 13 Inch No Touch Bar Data Recovery

I would like to share some experience on data recovery from my water-damaged MacBook Pro (A1708). I cannot even restart the computer because the motherboard was completely burned.

I read many posts online and the only way so far is to remove the SSD card and plug it in a MacBook that is exactly the same as the one whose SSD card was removed. Usually, you can buy second-hand computers on Facebook (but make sure you find a good seller and always double-check the computer). I went through the whole process and managed to get my data back (with technical helps). One condition is that your SSD card should work. From what I understand, it is very unlikely that SSD card is damaged from water splashes. Good luck!

I'm glad you were able to figure out a way to recover your data. In the future I recommend you keep frequent & regular backups which will make retrieving your data so much easier.

FYI, It is impossible to recover accidentally deleted data from an SSD plus an SSD can fail at any time without any warning signs. For the newer Macs with their SSDs soldered to the Logic Board there is no hope of recovering your data without a professional data recovery service.

Please start frequent & regular backups. If you have an external drive with important & unique data, then you need to back up the external drive(s) as well.
