how do i operate apple tv with my phone

I have a third gen apple tv box. I lost the remote and was told i could use my phone. When I set up apple tv, everything worked fine until it asked me to enter a listed code. I couldn't figure out how to do that.

Do you have the remote app on your phone? Set up the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
