Does Apple Watch uses iPhone's shareable data?

Hi everyone,

I have a Bell contract with non shareable data. Is the functioning of my Apple Watch going to be affected by that?

Bell contact center said I could have some overcharges but I am not sure since I think that all Apple Watch apps they update on the phone and then the data is transferred to the Watch via bluetooth.

Can someone confirm that please?

Thanks for your help

The iPhone is performing all cellular data activities for the GPS only Apple Watch.

The Cellular Carrier does not know you have a GPS only Apple Watch.

The connection is different from "Tethering", where your iPhone acts as a WiFi router for your laptop, and gives you access to the cellular data. Tethering is generally charged for. The Apple Watch/iPhone connections IS NOT that.

Again, the cellular carrier does not know that you are using an Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch iPhone relationship is more along the lines of pairing your iPhone to your car entertainment system. This too is none of the cellular carriers business, and they do not know you are doing it.

In this discussion for a GPS only Apple Watch, the iPhone is the only one using cellular data.

If you are getting a cellular Apple Watch, then the Apple Watch shares the iPhone's phone number, and the carrier charges you a monthly fee for this service. In the U.S. the fee is $10 per month added to your iPhone bill.

Since you are sharing 1 phone number, than any cellular data used by your Apple Watch will come out of your iPhone cellular plan.

If you get a GPS only Apple Watch, then when you are away from your home WiFi, the Apple Watch will be using the iPhone's radios, including its cellular data.

Bottom line, the Apple Watch is going to use your iPhone's data.
